This 60-minute presentation builds on the previous webinar titled ‘The influence of tongue posture on body posture’, and briefly covers the myofunctional influences on craniofacial growth and development. We will explore how breathing and orofacial myofunctional disorders (OMD’s) may lead to malocclusions, TMJ, postural and breathing disordered sleep issues. Sarah will highlight the fundamental role the facial muscles and muscles of mastication play in several body functions like breathing, swallowing, speaking, and chewing and the dysfunctional effects on the neutral zone and occlusion.

In addition, you will acquire a clear understanding of how to perform a myofunctional analysis and identify how poor oral habits negatively influence craniofacial growth and development. Following this webinar, it will be clear to you what steps you must take to prevent and/or intercept OMD’s and ensure facial growth achieves its genetic potential.

Presenter

Ms Sarah Hornsby Sarah is a graduated hygienist, world renowned myofunctional therapist and founder of Faceology and Myomentor. In 2010 she discovered the then little-known field of Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy and pursued training with the Academy of Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy (AOMT) followed by the International Association of Orofacial Myology (IAOM). Although Sarah has become a speaker, teacher, and leader in the field, it’s her journey through recognizing and treating her own oral myofunctional symptoms that makes her so passionate about the field and spreading the message about this critical component of dental health and overall wellness.
